Dear Friends and Family,
As some of you may have already heard, I will be participating in the Timberman Ironman 70.3 (half Ironman) Triathlon August 17, 2014. The “70.3” refers to the total distance in miles covered in the race, consisting of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride, and a 13.1-mile run.
Like my last triathlon I am going to be coached by/train with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training Program (TNT). As part of this I have committed to raising at least $2,500 for the organization. In return they are helping me with coaching and training in preparation for the event. My commitment involves fundraising, training almost every day, meetings, deadlines, and getting up at 6 am every Saturday for long workouts. Most of these commitments I can handle myself, but the fundraising portion involves you. To make it as simple as possible, I have established the following categories for giving:
The basic friend/acquaintance category ($25): You may not like me that much, you might only know me on facebook, we may only speak on occasion or you’re a total stranger, but you will give me $25 to get me off your case and to feel good about helping out a great cause.
The pity category ($50): You feel pity that I am dumb enough to experience incredible pain and discomfort in training for and participating in a triathlon (again). Or, you may fee pity that I am groveling for money.
Future payback category ($100): If you are in this category, it means that you plan on hitting me up for something really big in the future. At this level, I basically sit around and wait for your call and hope whatever I have to do for you someday is not too disgusting or embarrassing.
So, choose a category, maybe add a couple together, or just give whatever you can. Keep in mind that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is a great organization. Your donation will help pay for research, medications, family support groups, and more. The money will be well spent. In fact, seventy-six cents out of every dollar goes directly to their mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease, and myeloma, and to improve the quality of live of patients and their families.

I thank you for your support.
ps - For those who may recall the last time I did this I said I would “…never, ever hit you up again for a donation in my lifetime…”. Sorry, I guess I lied.
